Severe asthma is potentially life threatening. Newer biological therapies may offer a beacon of hope for some patients. However, it is important to address the basics first, such as co‐morbidities that can contribute to poorly controlled asthma, and clear diagnostic guidelines and criteria for referral are still needed.
