Abstract The Incitec Kooragang Island ammonia plant, built in 1969 by Kellogg, needed to replace, refurbish, or redesign both equipment and process in order to stay competitive. After an extensive plant assessment in the areas of safety, EPA compliance, reliability, efficiency, and capacity, a number of changes were implemented that have resulted in higher ammonia production and improved efficiency.
