The kellogg Brown & Root Company (KBR) has created a Safety Guide for Safity Instrumented Systems (SIS). This gulde defines what must be addressed in designing a safety system, and incolporates the application of ISA S84.01. It provides a way to perform a quantitative analysis for verification of the SIL values. The life cycle process is presented. The documentation is defined and some forms are provided. This presentation reviews each step in design of the SIS starting with management commitment. The actions that must be undertaken to apply ISA S84.01 are discussed. The components of the Safety Gulde, specific forms, safety reviews, and SIL calculations are identified.
