This paper describes a piping failure and fire resulting from inadequate support of an ammonia synthesis loop pressure relief valve, the non‐destructive testing and evaluation of fire‐impinged equipment, and the pipe failure mode. It also addresses support criteria for relief valves and other piping systems illustrating the importance of evaluating both static and dynamic loads.
