A simple analytical method is presented for estimating the hybrid minimum ignition energy (HMIE) of dust–gas mixtures, based on the assumed generality of Bartknecht's well‐known test data for mixtures of propane with a series of dusts in air. Since the HMIE equation requires input data which might be unavailable, the use of conservative default methods is discussed.
