Hurricane Katrina in 2005 caused significant damage to many refineries, chemical plants, and other industrial and harbor facilities along the Gulf Coast causing catastrophic levels of damage. DuPont's DeLisle Plant in Pass Christian, MS, was one of many facilities impacted by this event. DuPont has in place significant operational measures to respond to hurricane events, and post‐Katrina has taken measures to mitigate the effects of possible future recurrences through the construction of a higher storm levee. DuPont DeLisle Plant's fast track project to provide a significantly greater level of storm surge protection as well as analyses undertaken to define the extent of the storm surge hazard and design the physical levee improvements are described. © 2007 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Saf Prog 2008
