It is shown that the following groups are the only subgroups of GL (2, R ) in 2 dimensions, depending on one real continuous parameter λ:where c ≡ cosλ, s ≡ sin λ, ch = ch λ, sh ≡ sh λ and l , ξ, α, β and γ are real constant parameters.
