We review the characteristics of exceptional points (EPs) focusing on their braid operation. First we explain how the braid operation occurs in EPs using 2 × 2 non‐Hermitian matrix, and discuss the physical meaning of the coalescence of eigenvetors at the EP. We also show the relation between EPs and the so‐called exotic holonomy. Finally, we demonstrate a preliminary result on how to exploit the braid operation of EPs for topological quantum computation.
