We model meson melting in a hot plasma by the quasinormal modes of D7‐brane fluctuations of embeddings that fall into the horizon of a black hole in Ads 5 × S 5 geometry. The inverse of the imaginary part of the quasinormal frequency gives the lifetime of the meson in the plasma. We briefly comment on the possible application of our model to quarkonium suppression.
