The cover picture shows : high‐speed camera images 1.2 ms after ignition of TNT (top), ETN (Erythritol tetranitrate, middle) and PETN (bottom). Metal fragments generated from casing hit the steel plates and bright sparks were observed at the impact. ETN is a highly sensitive nitrate ester that has a positive oxygen balance and similar molecular structure to nitroglycerine and PETN. The velocities of fragments generated by ETN explosion were compared with those of TNT and PETN. Details are discussed in the article by Masahiro Tagawa et al. on page 184 ff.
