A general development of proven composition variants is derived from the historical evolution of primer compositions. Rules and requirements for new developments can be drawn up. On the basis of this knowledge the concept of a primer mixture, containing non‐toxic elements is laid down. An analysis of the air in firing ranges enables a comparison of the emission behaviour of conventional sinoxide ammunition and the new sintox ammunition. (Sintox is a protected trade‐mark (brand name) of Dynamit Nobel AG.)
