This article describes a potential cause of detonation in fine‐grained smokeless powders during the production of propelling charges for hunting (lead shot) ammunition, the tests performed in order to deter‐mine this cause, the general possibilities for the deflagration‐to‐detonation transition (DDT) in smokeless nitrocellulose powders, and finally a practical method for determining the predetonation zone with the deflagration of condensed explosives.
