The generation of CO, NO and NO 2 in blasting with ANFO has been measured. Blasting experiments in a 200 m 3 rock chamber have been made with the charges confined in rock and in steel tubes. Comparison of the results shows that steel tube experiments can be used to approximately predict toxic gas generation in small diameter drill hole underground blasting. The paper describes the simple calibration and measurement techniques used. The effect of oil content in the ANFO and the effect of moisture on the walls of the chamber have been investigated.
