The detonability of slurry blasting agents is characterized by their critical detonation diameter and their cap sensitivity. A quick method using conical charges permits the critical detonation diameter to be measured. The influence of density on the detonability was examined. Density of the slurry was varied by gassing before shotfiring or by compressing the slurry on firing. The results are different according as the slurry contains an explosive or non‐explosive sensitizer.
