Electrical conductivity studies on pure ammonium perchlorate, AP, and AP doped with sulphate ions have been carried out. The results indicate that the conduction is ionic in nature. Together with the observations made on the effect of electric field on the thermal decomposition of AP, the results of the present study establish that perchlorate ion is the major charge carrying species. The enthalpy for migration of defects has been found to be 0.8 eV, and the enthalpy for the formation of defects to be 1.2 eV.
