Thermal decomposition of KDX has been studied by Differential Scanning Calorimetry. KDX was found to decompose significantly below its melting point. The rate and activation energy (E) of the decomposition in the open and closed‐pan conditions were different. Under closed‐pan conditions the products seem to catalyse the decomposition. The E value for the decomposition of KDX (under open‐pan conditions) both under isothermal and dynamic conditions was estimated to be (41±2) kcal/mol. The method of E estimation was free from kinetic assumptions. The order of reaction was found to be 0.6.
