As the number of self‐guided tours has risen in recent years, more travelers use online information sources to collect information and make their travel plans prior to travel. This study addresses the important issue of how to evaluate user satisfaction with various online tourist information sources. In this study, we recruited participants who intended to travel on the self‐guided way. Information retrieval experiments and interviews were conducted to identify the criteria that affected their satisfaction with various types of online travel information. Through content analysis of the interview data, 19 criteria were obtained. This study provides a theoretical basis for optimizing methods of automatic evaluation of users' satisfaction with tourism information.
