The purpose of this study is to assess the uncertainty‐driven problem‐solving model posited by Wilson (1999) as applied to the information behaviors of alcohol and other drug (AOD) counselors in their daily work practices. With the Wilson model serving as a framework, a series of semi‐structured interviews was developed and the data analyzed to uncover the uncertainties of each of the interrelated domains of the profession, as well as the subsequent information behaviors that serve to address those uncertainties. Results show a strong match between the Wilson model and the empirical data in most functions of the job. That is, most information behaviors in the various job functions tend to stem from some uncertainty.
