We report on a 3‐year‐old boy, who was tracheotomized for prolonged ventilatory support in response to respiratory failure due to spinal muscular atrophy. He aspirated a fractured synthetic tracheostomy tube. It was successfully removed by flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Pediatr Pulmonol. 2002; 34:141–143. © 2002 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.
