A strategy for real‐time characterization of zinc‐protein‐chelant interactions is described by D. Aili and co‐workers on page 1127. Gold nanoparticles functionalized with a zinc‐responsive protein mimetic polypeptide aggregate extensively in the presence of Zn 2+ . Small molecular chelants have a significant effect on the aggregation that is reflected in the localized surface plasmon band, and which provides extensive information about the nature of the interactions.
