The thermal conductivity of segregated ice is theoretically estimated based on a model of porous ice with capillary (continuous) and closed cylindrical pores along the heat flow and with spherical air bubbles, taking into account the additional convective heat transfer by vapour diffusion in the bubbles. Calculations can be made on the basis of the Maxwell‐Rayleigh theory. It is shown that the calculated values of thermal conductivity for segregated ice are much higher than some previously published experimental values, probably due to some methodological shortcomings in the calculation and/or in the earlier experiments.
