Summary: Applicability of low‐pressure microwave discharges for the de‐pyrogenization of the heat sensitive materials has been tested. It has been found that discharges in selected gas mixtures are capable to reduce the amount of deposited pyrogens significantly within 1 min of plasma treatment. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that de‐pyrogenization is due to the plasma interactions with the pyrogens, and it cannot be ascribed to other possible side effects.Time evolution of de‐pyrogenization in a O 2 :H 2 (50:50) microwave discharge.
