Summary: The paper clarifies the reasons for long‐term memory effects observed in the case of the low current mode of negative corona. It was found that the temporal changes of the corona characteristics depend on electrode coating, temperature, airflow rate and intensity of UV radiation triggering the discharge. These experimental findings are explained on the basis of the recently developed emission model. Finally, a procedure of the conditioning that guarantees a satisfactory reproducibility of experimental results, is described.Temporal changes of the photo‐induced current; arrows indicate the moments when UV radiation was switched on/off; airflow rate −4.4 m · s −1 .
