Isotactic polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) was obtained via anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with ionic liquid (IL) as the solvent. IL acts as both the solvent and an additive in this process, and its interaction with MMA, key to controlling the stereoregularity of the polymer product. The apparent steric hindrance of MMA increases when its carbonyl and vinyl groups interact with IL via electrostatic interactions, resulting in PMMA with well‐controlled stereoregularity. Nobuyuki Otozawa and colleagues provide details of this approach in their article on page 1960. (DOI: 10.1002/pol.20200244 )
