Links between the microbiome and psychiatric and neurological disease have been the focus of much attention in recent years and may add to our understanding of the complexities of these diseases in tandem with our developing knowledge of the genome's role. However, a third domain ‐ the so‐called exposome ‐ may also need consideration if we are to gain deeper insights into the complex nature of psychiatric and neurological disease.
