Studies suggest that people with bipolar affective disorder have higher rates of cardiovascular risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, smoking and poor diet; however, there are few studies assessing specific risk factors in the UK population. Dr Brown and colleagues present the results of their study to evaluate lifestyle‐related cardiovascular risk factors in a community cohort of patients with bipolar disorder compared with the UK general population.
