People with affective disorders are at increased risk of diabetes mellitus; however, glucose monitoring practices vary widely in mental health settings across the UK. Here, Drs Kelbrick and Picchioni describe their audit to identify patients with a primary affective disorder and co‐morbid diabetes admitted to a Northamptonshire acute inpatient unit and to establish the level of compliance with local and national guidelines regarding plasma glucose and diabetes monitoring.
