New psychiatric assessment letters to GPs are of paramount importance in setting up a successful partnership between primary and secondary care. In this study, Dr Najim and Dr Loughran identified the patient information considered by GPs to be essential and used the results to design an improved letter format to optimise communication between primary and secondary care.
