DOI: 10.1002/pmic.201700053 The daily production of more than 1011 erythroid (red) and myeloid (white) cells places a large anabolic demand on small regions of bone marrow. Billing et al. use a scalable in vitro differentiation system to generate large numbers of erythroid and myeloid cells at various stages of differentiation and investigate the proteome of purified mitochondria using iTRAQ LC‐MS/MS. Their results reveal lineage‐specific shifts consistent with metabolic compartmentalization within the marrow. For more details, see the research article by Billing et al., article number 1700053.
