Thirty‐six university teams from Canada, Mexico and the United States raced their solar‐powered cars from Indiana to Colorado during June 1995. The event, called Sunrayce 95, is designed to provide a stimulating educational opportunity for students of science and engineering, while educating the public about the exciting prospect of environmentally clean photovoltaic energy. The race was the fastest and closest ever for a collegiate solar‐car event, with the winner decided by only 19 minutes and one team averaging over 80 kph for 1 day of the race.
