A polystyrene latex was prepared which was stabilized using the most effective stabilizer, i.e. a graft copolymer of polystyrene‐poly(ethylene oxide). The latex and the stabilizer were characterized using infrared, elemental analysis, viscometry, osmometry, electron microscopy and microelectrophoresis techniques. The results show that the polystyrene latex is sterically stabilized and could be used for thermodynamic and kinetic studies.
