Essential features and advantages of semi‐batch emulsion polymerisation are described. Variations of polymerisation rate, polymer particle number, particle size, copolymer composition and molecular weight distribution are considered and the use of mathematical models is reviewed. Suggestions for future work, both experimental and modelling, are made.
