Nylon 666‐g‐maleic acid membranes were prepared by 60 Co γ‐ray irradiation. The membranes were characterized by measuring their thickness, tensile strength, electrical resistance, membrane potential and permselectivity. Permeability coefficients of KCI, NaCl, Na 2 SO 4 , NaOH, urea and creatinine were evaluated from dialysis experiments. The charged membranes facilitated the active transport of alkali metal ions under a pH gradient.
