A novel polyurethane/acrylate (PUA) porous gel electrolyte was prepared by a new method, emulsion polymerization. Compared with the traditional phase inversion method, the new method can eliminate the pollution from solvent and decrease the cost of production. The swelling properties and morphology of the porous polymer membranes were characterized. The porous membranes, made by emulsion polymerization, could absorb large quantities of electrolyte solution to form porous gel electrolytes. The gel electrolytes have good solvent retention ability and high ionic conductivity. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry
