Beam shaping has already often demonstrated its benefits when applied to laser material processing. It is used in laser beam welding to optimize the energy input on the part and then improve quality and yield. A laser head using multi‐plane light conversion (MPLC) beam shaping technology has been developed, dedicated to steel welding. The performance of this laser head paves the way for the development of new welding techniques such as laser‐arc hybrid welding, or on materials such as copper.
