Laser beam welding (LBW) is a perfect candidate for accessing Industry 4.0. Many advances are being made in the technology coming from the laser manufacturers and the system integrating companies with the commitment of the photonics community, and one of the applications driving them is automotive and in particular e‐mobility. The European Commission's programme is a suitable platform for stimulating the access of laser technology to the world of digitalization.
