The tasks contributing to the growing importance of biophotonics are many and varied. They include maintaining the health of an ageing global community, combating chronic diseases, and fulfilling the health needs of a growing global middle class. Its increasing significance is reflected in the growth rates on the whole biophotonics market. According to a study [1], the mean annual growth will be 7 % until the year 2020. Optical technologies are intended to find new, cost‐efficient, and effective solutions for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and to respond to innovative trends like personalized medicine.
