Camera modules have now taken a major share of the camera industry due to becoming a key part of an important consumer electronic device, the smartphones. In this article, an analysis of the camera module industry is offered including market forecast, company ecosystem, and consumer trends. The focus is on camera modules serving consumer electronics such as mobile phones, but we also give an overview of other applications, in particular the automotive ones.
