The orientation characteristics and the physical properties of acrylonitrile copolymers are studied as a function of orientation temperature, stretch ratio, and rubber modification content. The mechanical, barrier, and thermal properties are evaluated and discussed with respect to the influence of rubber content on these properties. The data indicate unique differences in the orientation behavior of rigid and rubber‐modified copolymers. An explanation of these differences is offered on the basis of microscopy and dynamic mechanical analysis.
