A computer interface was developed for a commercially available film balance to aid in the fabrication and characterization of surfactant films spread on water substrates. The interface is compatible with other commercially available systems, easily programmable, and able to perform a variety of tasks. This interface aided in following chemical reactions which occurred in the films, describing the morphology of the films, monitoring the process of film deposition, and also studying the mechanical properties of the films.
