Some general considerations are given concerning the conformational factors affecting the inherent elastic modulus of the macromolecular chains in the crystalline state. In particular, the influence of the size of side groups and that of the chain extension are discussed. Some conformational properties concerning two polymers with different stiffness, both containing amide groups, are clarified.
