The post extrusion swelling behavior of PVC has been studied as a function of the rheological flow variables and as a function of the molecular weight of the polymer. An expression which correlates the swelling with the apparent non‐Newtonian viscosity has been found for each of the five molecular weight samples studied. No mechanism for this elastic effect was proposed.
