Injection‐molded V‐groove light‐guide plates (LGPs) were made of two optical grade polycarbonates of different viscosities at various molding conditions. Their luminance as a function of viewing angle was measured. The depth of melt filling of the grooves in LGPs was measured at different locations selected based on the melt front propagation during the cavity filling. The depth of melt filling of grooves was mostly completed during the cavity‐filling stage. It was only slightly affected by the packing pressure and packing time and strongly affected by other molding conditions and layout of the V‐grooves. Luminance of LGPs showed a strong correlation with the depth of melt filling of the V‐grooves. POLYM. ENG. SCI., 2008. © 2008 Society of Plastics Engineers
