The article is devoted to the establishment and development of the National Pharmacovigilance system in Ukraine. A drug safety centre of Ukraine started to form a pharmacovigilance system in 1996. It has been operating on a regular basis since 2000 and now provides the regulatory services that include data collection and analysis, database management, education, international contacts, and the publication and dissemination of information. Our ultimate goal is to foster a rational and safe drug use and to improve the quality of pharmacotherapy in Ukraine. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
