People with diabetes are at an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and the important role of dietary changes is well established. However, the specific role of saturated fats in reducing this risk continues to be debated. The debates have been fuelled by publications of large studies reporting seemingly conflicting results. This article looks at the role of saturated fats in diabetes management, teases out the nuances in the opposing positions of the debate, and provides practical recommendations.
