Diabetic ketoacidosis ( DKA ) is a serious complication of diabetes and errors in its management are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Simulation based medical education is used to teach health care professionals diagnosis and management of low‐frequency, high‐acuity conditions. We aim to describe a novel method of teaching DKA diagnosis and management using simulation and provide a model which other institutions can adapt as an educational resource. We also map scenario outcomes to a number of key educational domains as well as outlining important patient safety outcomes that can be covered in the debrief.
