Cycling is increasing in popularity for both recreational and practical purposes. Marked changes in blood glucose are seen during and following cycling, with risk of hypoglycaemia. There is now an extensive body of clinical and research evidence to assist the clinician when advising the person with type 1 diabetes mellitus, to help people manage diabetes and exercise more effectively. Fortuitously, much of the research evidence is based on cycling. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons.
