What's already known about this topic? Current guidelines recommend performing amniocentesis for prenatal diagnosis of CMV infection not before 21 weeks' gestation and at least 6 weeks after maternal infection. What does this study add? Our data suggest that amniocentesis can be done before 21 weeks' gestation without significant loss of sensitivity. This has to be confirmed in a controlled study. © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
