What's already known about this topic? Select first and second trimester maternal serum markers are known to be higher (inhibin A) or lower (human chorionic gonadotrophin and pregnancy‐associated plasma protein‐A), among women who smoke cigarettes, even after adjustment for maternal weight, race and other factors. What does this study add? We found, for the first time, that serum analyte levels in women who report being former cigarette smokers are more consistent with those levels found in women who do not smoke than in those who do.
