Termination of pregnancy by a dilatation‐evacuation technique to obtain placental tissue for DNA analysis

In 57 patients, following prenatal diagnosis of a fetus affected by β‐thalassaemia major, we terminated the pregnancy by dilatation and evacuation. In 19, we have already performed DNA analysis to evaluate the feasibility of prenatal diagnosis in a subsequent pregnancy.
